About Flora Purim
Flora Purim is a world-class jazz singer from Brazil possessed of a six-octave range. Her performance style melds mellifluous phrasing, slippery harmonics, syncopation with Brazilian rhythms, folk and pop forms. She emigrated to America in 1966, with percussionist / husband Airto Moreira. They joined pianist Chick Corea's first Return to Forever, issuing an eponymous album and 1972's Light as a Feather, a fusion classic. 1973's Butterfly Dreams was the first of eight charting albums for Milestone. In the 1990s, Purim and Moreira founded global jazz fusion project Fourth World. In the early 21st century, Purim issued four albums for Narada including 2000's Perpetual Emotion. At age 80, Purim independently released If You Will. In September 2023, her Complete Warner Recordings appeared, and in November, BBE's three disc / five LP Airto & Flora - A Celebration: 60 Years - Sounds, Dreams & Other Stories.
