About Galaxie 500

In their short life span, Galaxie 500 turned out contemplative, droning, moody pop that set the stage for shoegaze. Formed in Boston in 1987, the band broke up in 1991, leaving behind three albums of explosively dreamy tunes and a simmering legacy that music fans continue to discover. On tracks like “Flowers” and “Blue Thunder,” vocalist/guitarist Dean Wareham, bassist/vocalist Naomi Yang, and drummer Damon Krukowski proved that playing softly could be just as powerful as being noisy. While they flew under the radar during their time, their three studio albums, Today (1988), On Fire (1989), and This Is Our Music (1990), have become must-listens for forward-thinking music fans. After their breakup, Wareham founded Luna while Yang and Krukowski continued on as Damon & Naomi, but Galaxie 500’s legacy drones onward.
