About Ted Nugent

Guitarist, singer-songwriter, and self-described “Motor City Madman” Ted Nugent is a classic rock icon, whose career spans seven decades. ∙ Nugent’s first major band was The Amboy Dukes, whose seven albums yielded one hit single, “Journey to the Center of the Mind,” which peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1968. ∙ He disbanded The Amboy Dukes in 1975 and released his debut solo album, Ted Nugent, which was certified double-Platinum. ∙ The instrumental break from 1975’s “Stranglehold” was ranked No. 31 on Guitar World’s list of 100 Greatest Guitar Solos—just ahead of Jimi Hendrix’s “Machine Gun.” ∙ “Cat Scratch Fever,” which peaked at No. 30 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in 1977, was his best-selling single and came in at No. 32 on VH1’s list of the 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs. ∙ Along with Styx’s Tommy Shaw, Night Ranger’s Jack Blades, and drummer Michael Cartellone, Nugent cofounded the multi-Platinum rock supergroup Damn Yankees in 1989. ∙ For the 2006 VH1 reality series Supergroup, he teamed up with Skid Row’s Sebastian Bach, drummer Jason Bonham, and others to form the short-lived band Damnocracy.
