YJF: Al Morrison Quartet, Winning Post, 03/10

York, meet York Jazz Fest. A new city-wide festival celebrating jazz in all its forms. From intimate bars to iconic venues, from timeless standards to forward-thinking sounds, York Jazz Fest brings together the full spectrum of jazz for four days of live music, discovery and community. Whether you've loved jazz for decades or have never listened before, you're invited. 1-4 October 2026. Tonight: the Al Morrison Quartet. Al Morrison started playing guitar at 15 and won a scholarship to study at Leeds Conservatoire, later furthering studies in Jazz Guitar at Trinity College London. Al runs his own band, The Blues Experience, and plays with the New York Brass Band at many festivals and gigs. He is also the regular bandleader for the Scarborough Jazz Festival resident trio. Al is joined by the brilliant pairing of Chris Sykes on drums and José Canha on double bass.
