about
Chicago pastoral metal specialists Pelican dissect Karate’s 1996 emo anthem “Gasoline.” Pinebender's Chris Hansen subs in for Geoff Farina on vocals, bringing a throaty contrast to the quartet’s otherwise brutal rendering. The project is part of Numero Group’s ongoing series of archival re-imaginings that includes Skullcrusher, Current Joys, Say She She, Leon Bridges, La Ren, La Luz, Marissa Nadler, et al.

A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer

Indeed the love continues for Mogwai. I like the direction they’re going with this release. Just wish this album would display in my public collection. TeddyB

As exciting as experimental rock gets, Poorly Drawn House's controlled minimalist chaos is like caffeinated slowcore. Bandcamp New & Notable Feb 17, 2024
