On The Score: Elfman speaks on 'Alice' and Tim Burton
March, 2010 - Daniel Schweiger for On The Score speaks with Danny on Alice in Wonderland, whether or not he's a social outcast, reject or... Lame and Danny's blow-out with Tim Burton! Check out the audio interview at Filmmusicmag.com.

Danny no longer howling 'The Wolfman' (again!)
January, 2010 - UPDATE: Well, this just got weirder -- Danny Elfman's music for The Wolfman is back in the film! Cinemusic.net reports that Paul Haslinger's replacement score is out, and Elfman is back in, with an assist from composer/orchestrator Conrad Pope writing additional music to tie it all together. Even better news, Varese Sarabande is releasing the 66-minute album Elfman prepared (way back in November, 2009) of Wolfman material, on February 23rd. Pre-order the disc at Amazon.com.

Previously... Big news for Elfman fans: Danny Elfman has left (or been fired, depending on how you want to look at it) from Universal Pictures' production of Joe Johnston's The Wolf Man. Cinemusic.net has the details:

"There were rumblings deep in the Elfman fan communityÖ And it looks like those rumblings are now mumblings ó Danny Elfman has left The Wolfman, apparently due to scheduling conflicts. But if you believe rumors, itís due to problems with the film, which has been pushed back three times from its original release date to February 12th, 2010 (originally scheduled for November 12, 2008, first pushed back to February 13, 2009, then to April 3, 2009, and again to November 6, 2009)."

The Wolfman is in theatres on February 12th, with what's is likely to be a mixture of music from Elfman, Paul Haslinger and additional music by Conrad Pope.

Elfman's 'Alice in Wonderland' on 3/2/10, not on official site - yet
January, 2010 - Danny Elfman's hotly anticipated score for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland is wrapping up recording and will be released on CD by Walt Disney Records on March 2 (pre-order on Amazon.com). The same date as the "inspired by" song collection Almost Alice, featuring newly recorded tracks from Avril Lavigne, et al that do not appear in the film. Despite what you might have read on the internet, the music featured on the official Alice website is not by Danny Elfman. It's really a library/trailer piece, "Midnight Waltz" by Brand X (see for yourself on YouTube). Follow all Alice developments on the discussion board.

La-La Land Records takes 'Woodstock' from Danny
August, 2009 - La-La Land Records will release Danny's period score for Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock on September 29.

"Presenting the original motion picture score to the acclaimed new feature film from Focus Features, TAKING WOODSTOCK, starring Emile Hirsch (INTO THE WILD) and Live Schreiber (WOLVERINE, THE OMEN) and directed by Academy Award-Winning filmmaker, Ang Lee (CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON, BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN). Renowned composer Danny Elfman (BATMAN, WANTED, EDWARD SCISSORHANDS, MILK) crafts an amazing ride of a rock score that whisks the listener, along with the film, back to the very birth of the most legendary of concert eventsÖ Woodstock! A new musical work from one of filmdom's most exciting composers."

The official song soundtrack (from Rhino Records) features five Elfman score cuts, but these are also included on La-La Land's score disc. Buy CD at Amazon.com.

Danny themes '9', Deborah Lurie writes the score
August, 2009 - Originally believed to be scoring Shane Acker's animated film produced by Tim Burton and Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov, Danny Elfman instead wrote the themes for 9, and Deborah Lurie, who previously has lent additional music to some of Danny's recent scores, has written the score. Recorded in London, the score will be released (on August 31) by Koch / E1 Music and include the track "Welcome Home" by Coheed and Cambria (used in the film's theatrical trailer). Buy CD at Amazon.com.

Terminator Salvation in stores May 19
May 13, 2009 - Danny Elfman's highly anticipated (and no doubt, potentially controversial) original score for Terminator Salvation is due in stores and digitally on May 19th, just before the film's release. The album features 14 Elfman score cues, and Alice In Chain's '90s-era rocker "Rooster". Warner Bros./Reprise's publicity says:

"Capturing what director McG calls ìthe delicate nature of humanity and the unrelenting brutality of the machines,î Elfmanís synthesizer/orchestral score for Terminator Salvation elevates and expands the sweeping soundscape of one of the most successful series of films in history."

The album is available for pre-order at Amazon.com.

Updates!
March 26, 2009 - What's the deal with the lack of updates? Well I'm rehauling the entire site. That means I can't hang new drapes before I tear this house down. So, if you'd like to stay up-to-date you should go directly to the Message Board. In the meanwhile, this is what Danny Elfman has slated for the rest of 2009: Terminator Salvation (dir. McG), Taking Woodstock (dir. Ang Lee, in theatres August), 9 (dir. Shane Acker, this assignment TBC, in theatres September), and The Wolf Man (dir. Joe Johnston, in theatres November).
