About This Morn Omina

This Morn' Omina are a Belgian tribal industrial group founded by Mika Goedrijk. Their music combines ritualistic rhythms and dark electronics, producing a hypnotic, mystical variation on rhythmic noise and EBM. The group formed in 1996 and made their full-length debut with Nezeru Enti Sebauem Neterxertet, released by Old Europa Cafe in 1997. This was followed by 1998's Em Sauf Haa-Heru and 2001's Taiu, both issued by HORUS CyclicDaemon. The three albums made up The Hegira Trilogy, and were released as such in 2001. The Future Has Taken Root in the Present and 7 Years of Famine both appeared in 2002. The latter contained "One Eyed Man," which became an underground club hit, and Ant-Zen reissued the album in 2003. While the group still created atmospheric ambient soundscapes, their subsequent recordings increasingly reflected the fury of their live performances. The group remained with Ant-Zen for several albums and EPs. The double CD Le Serpent Blanc ~ Le Serpent Rouge appeared in 2003, followed by the Drake Equation EP in 2004. Another double CD, Les Passages Jumeaux: Le 25ième Degré ~ Le 33ième Degré, appeared in 2006, and The Hegira Trilogy was reissued by Ant-Zen in 2007. Following the limited release Inferno, issued by Belgian label Spectre in 2008, the group returned to Ant-Zen for 2009's Momentum of Singular Clarity EP. This was followed by their next proper album, 2011's L'Unification des Forces Opposantes, which was yet another double CD. Following several years and a move to German label Dependent, This Morn' Omina (at this point consisting of Goedrijk, Karolus Lerocq, Peter Boey, Jelle Mattez, and Bavo Jipla) returned in 2017 with the double CD Kundalini Rising. ~ Paul Simpson
