About Tenacious D

Tenacious D—the comedy rock duo of actors Jack Black and Kyle Gass—is known for their hit songs featuring heavy metal theatrics and comical lyrics. ∙ Before they even recorded an album, Tenacious D appeared in the 1996 comedy Bio-Dome and made a cameo in the 1999 music video for Foo Fighters’ “Learn to Fly.” ∙ The duo’s 2001 self-titled debut was produced by Grammy-winners The Dust Brothers and featured Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Page McConnell (Phish), and Warren Fitzgerald (The Vandals). ∙ Their 2002 Brixton Academy show was captured for release as the concert film and music video collection The Complete Master Works, which went six-times Platinum in the US. ∙ They starred as fictionalized versions of themselves in the 2006 film Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny, which also featured Ronnie James Dio, Meat Loaf, and Dave Grohl. ∙ In 2012, they topped the Rock Albums charts in both the US and the UK with their third LP, Rize of the Fenix. ∙ The band won Best Metal Performance at the 2015 Grammy Awards for “The Last In Line,” their contribution to the tribute LP Ronnie James Dio: This Is Your Life. ∙ Featuring numerous actors, musicians, and politicians, Tenacious D released a cover of “Time Warp” to benefit Rock the Vote in the 2020 US election season.
