Franz Anton Hoffmeister

About Franz Anton Hoffmeister

Though a prolific composer, Hoffmeister's primary contribution to music was in publishing. He had established a firm in Vienna and published his own music as well as that of Mozart and Haydn. He sold rights to Artari, another major publishing firm, while negotiating with Beethoven. He formed a partnership with Kuhnel and successfully negotiated to publish the works of numerous major composers including Albrechtsberger, Clementi, Pleyel and Sussmayr. The compositions which Hoffmeister wrote included sixty six symphonies and several German operas. ~ Keith Johnson
