“Molto affascinante e visionario”

“Numerator” is reviewed for “Wicked Style” by Haurelio!

As the original text is written in italian, please find our attempt at an english translation below:

“The veterans who in 1997 gave life to the idm-electro-ambient project called Drøn – Christoph Abert, Ingo Zobel and Frederik Dahlke – make their debut on Science Cult with a 2×12” yellow vinyl LP that includes thirteen original versions. The result is very fascinating and visionary, with absolutely elegiac flashes and some more intense, viral passages, although most of the offerings are of a very abstract nature and suitable at most for very atmospheric and dazed DJ sets. The quality, as always for this label, is very high and the journey – decidedly very dreamlike – is assured from start to finish without deteriorations or trivial formulas. Also highly recommended and particularly twitchy is the artwork based on Ulam’s spiral for prime numbers, which was generated using a processing script.“

“Brittle but amiable grooves” - or in the original german version, “spröde, aber liebenswürdige Grooves”!
This characterisation is taken from a fresh review about “Numerator”, authored by Maximilian Fritz.

Please find an english translation from the original german below:

“Drøn. That you are dealing with an IDM-act here can somehow be guessed. That it is from Germany - or at least not from Scandinavia - can also be somehow guessed. The preference for the "ø” is particularly pronounced among German-speaking electronic acts. Presumably, because it communicates the foreign, unfamiliar as well as the technological sterility of this music. Both come together in Drøn, in the sense of classic Intelligent Dance Music in the style of the turn of the millennium. In 2000, the trio released their debut album “Parsec,” and “Numerator” features 13 previously unheard tracks from over 20 years of producing.
The title track embodies the “D” in IDM and initially sounds like a pitched-down Unit-Moebius roller, but after a brief sensing phase, it takes into account the “I” and levitates into interstellar space with vocal ciphers in the style of Boards of Canada and uplifting pads. “Tektite” suddenly starts humming and wheezes in the beat like the Brothomstates classic “Mdrmx” from 2001. However, just because their sound references other influences doesn’t mean that Christoph Abert, Frederik Dahlke, and Ingo Zobel have exclusively distilled it from external sources. Almost every piece conveys originality, robustness, and urgency. Although Drøn usually orchestrate the [tracks’] build-up in a deliberately bumby manner, shortly afterwards brittle but amiable grooves deve
lop.“
