Hailing from Vancouver Island, bsd.u—pronounced “beside you” (real name Matthew Veselisin) is a Canadian lo-fi producer who gained tremendous popularity through his SoundCloud account, riding the wave of the platform’s apogee in the early and mid 2010s. With a large amount of his music being used in YouTube edits, his fame rocketed and several of his tracks reached the million plays bar on the Cloud.
Matthew has collaborated with other notorious SoundCloud artists like bob le head, DJ YUNG VAMP, knowmadic and slr.. He continued to widen his fanbase along with joining the Inner Ocean Records collective where he would join fellow producers and publish several projects, including 2015’s very enigmatic leaving under his alter ego monk.—a cassette that received very positive feedback from his audience as well as his beatmakers friends in the tracks' comment section.
His most successful album is 2017’s pook, including two singles—being the eponymous track and “_,” both surpassing one million plays in total. He used to hold a Tumblr account, and a Twitch channel where he would stream beatmaking sessions while smoking marijuana up until 2018, before eventually letting go of both. Matthew would later go on to create a Discord server on which he is very active and regularly posts excerpts of music he’s working on, and another Twitch channel on which he streams beatmaking sessions.
