Da Chick

AKA: Teresa de Sousa and Teresa Freitas de Sousa

About Da Chick

Da Chick, artistic name of Teresa Freitas de Sousa (born in Lisbon) is a Portuguese singer, songwriter, and producer, known for her groovy style and with a growing notability in her country’s musical scene.

In 2009, she was already noticed in the underground clubs, playing with Mike El Nite or in bands such as Discotexas and Memória de Peixe.

Her solo journey starts with the release of the EP Curly Mess in 2012. The debut album Chick to Chick arrives in 2015, produced alongside renowned names of a new generation of Portuguese producers (Xinobi, Moullinex, Cut Slack and Isac Ace).

With a special taste for funk and boogie from the late 70s/early 80s, Da Chick crosses styles and attitudes from disco to punk to new wave to hip-hop. She already had some notable invitations: to sing with Peaches or to open for Earth Wind and Fire and Maceo Parker at EDP Cool Jazz festival.

In 2021, Da Chick participates in Festival da Canção, the Portuguese pre-selection for Eurovision Song Contest, as singer and cocomposer (alongside Gui Salgueiro) of “I Got Music”.
