About [Alexandros]

[Alexandros] (アレキサンドロス) is a Japanese rock band based in Tokyo, Japan which formed in 2007 by Yoohei Kawakami (川上 洋平, as Vocal & Guitar), Hiroyuki Isobe (磯部 寛之, as Bass & Chorus), Masaki Shirai (白井 眞輝, as Guitar) and Hiroki Ishikawa (石川 博基, as Drums). Satoyasu Shomura (庄村 聡泰, as Drum) joined the band from his previous role, Band Support, filling in Hiroki Ishikawa’s spot in 2010 and releasing his first album Where’s my Potato? on January 20, 2010. The band renamed to [Alexandros] from [Champagne] on official request by Bureau du Champagne, Japan on March 28, 2014.

After being signed to Universal Music Japan on November 28, 2014, the band released subsequent albums and singles. ワタリドリ / Dracula la (Wataridori / Dracula la), was the first to release on March 18, 2015. The single “ワタリドリ (Wataridori)” got peak chart positions in #5 (Oricon) and #3 (Billboard Japan’s), the song certified twice as Platinum by Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ).

In 2016, their song “Mosquito Bite” was used for the live-action film adaptation of Bleach. That same year, the band also contributed to the theme songs “アルペジオ (Arpeggio)” and ending theme “Your Song” to the Sega video game Judgment. A year later in 2019, their song “PRAY” was used as the theme for the Japanese dub of the MonsterVerse series' film Godzilla: King of the Monsters.

In March 2021, Satoyasu Shomura left the band due to struggles with focal dystonia. His last performance with the band was at the 10th ANNIVERSARY LIVE, “Where’s My Yoyogi?” at Yoyogi National Gymnasium by the song “Untitled.” On April 10, 2021, Ib Riad (リアド偉武, Drums), officially joined the band after performing as the band’s support drummer while Satoyasu Shomura focused on recovering from his ongoing medical condition. The single “閃光 (Senkou),” used as the theme song for 機動戦士ガンダム 閃光のハサウェイ (Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash), is the first single features Ib Riad as an official member.

Their albums ALXD (June 17, 2015), EXIST! (November 9, 2016) and Sleepless in Brooklyn (November 21, 2018), both hit top five on the Oricon and Billboard Japan’s chart. Additionally, they both certified as Gold by Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ). [Alexandros] also won the Japan Gold Disc Award as “New Artist of the Years” (2016); Space Shower Music Awards as “Best Rock Artist” (2016), “People’s choice” (2017) and “Best Group Artist” (2019). Their single “Swan” also won MTV’s Video Music Awards Japan as “Best Rock Video” (2016).

The band was listed as one of line-up artists at some major music festival in Japan such as Rock in Japan Festival (2010, 2011, 2012, 2020), Summer Sonic Festival (2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2019), Rising Sun Rock Festival (2012, 2015, 2017) and Fuji Rock Festival (2015). They also performed as supporting act at some artist’s Japan Tour such as Kasabian (2012), Muse (2013) and Primal Scream (2013). They also appeared at The Great Escape Festival in UK (2013) and SXSW Music Festival in US (2014).
