About Vangelis

Born in Thessaly and raised in Athens, Evángelos Odysséas Papathanassíou (1943-2022) showed an early interest in traditional Greek music but later developed an interest in jazz and rock. A composer with more than 50 albums to his credit, he is best known for his Oscar-winning score to Chariots of Fire, the theme of which reached the top of the Billboard chart. Vangelis died of heart failure on 17 May 2022, at the age of 79, at a hospital in Paris. He was suffering from several health issues in the last couple of years and, according to some reports, died of COVID-19 complications.
