About Donny Osmond
As a teen idol, a member of the sibling band The Osmonds, and one-half of a duo with his sister Marie, singer and all-around entertainer Donny Osmond became a household name of the ’70s. • Donny was one of nine siblings born into a devout Mormon household in Utah. His brothers Alan, Wayne, Merrill, and Jay started The Osmond Brothers in the late ’50s as a barbershop quartet. • The Osmonds—now with Donny in the fold—skyrocketed to stardom with “One Bad Apple,” a gold-certified single from their 1970 self-titled debut album. • As the lead vocalist on the album’s Top 10 hit “Sweet and Innocent,” Donny caught the attention of the group’s label executives, who decided to break the teen singer as a solo act. • In 1971, Donny released his first two albums, The Donny Osmond Album and To You With Love, Donny. The latter featured “Go Away Little Girl,” his first solo single to top the Billboard Hot 100. • Donny and Marie made their debut as a duo with 1974’s gold-certified I’m Leaving It (All) Up to You. • By 1976, Osmond had racked up 10 Top 40 hits on the Billboard Hot 100, including five that went Top 10. • Following a 10-year lull, Donny returned in 1989 with an eponymous comeback album. Its single “Soldier of Love” reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. • In 2009, Donny won the ninth season of Dancing with the Stars. He competed to prove that he was a better dancer than Marie, who had previously finished in third place.
