We’ve got a new video out today! We recorded this live version of Ascension (from our last EP, Great Falls) in my apartment.

this song means a lot to me, & I think it’s fitting on piano. it’s easy to fall into a meditative place with it, watching the hammers move. I think of my ancestors each & every time I sing it. And Young & Kellen’s vocals really add something special in this version.

Finished hand dying the new bandanas! Each one is unique & I’ve been enjoying getting lost in the galactic patterns.

The bandanas were designed by Stephanie Use & hand dyed by yours truly - a limited # are available to order here:  therestalk.bandcamp.com

We chose symbolism for protection, interconnection, freedom, honoring the dead, & life energy at the center. Hope it adorns as a power piece.

We have a new video out today, a live performance of Lightleak.

We filmed, edited, and recorded it ourselves at my apartment. My favorite thing about it is being able to hear & see Young & Kellen’s beautiful harmonies.

Today I’m excited to announce that we’ll be releasing new music this month, with the first single out next Friday 5/13/22!

We have a pre-order live today with new bandanas available, designed by graphic legend Stephanie Kuse. I’ll also be hand bleach tie-dying and indigo crystal tie-dying a handful.

You can pre-order the bandana & new songs here to get your paws on ‘em as soon as they’re available next month, along with the new tracks when they’re released (and it’s one of those Bandcamp Fridays today, so ~today~ is an extra special day to put in an order for anything you’re eyeing as we get to keep 100% of the proceeds).

We baked a lot of love into these new songs, and I hope you can feel it. Looking forward to sharing them so so soon.

Thanks for your support. <3

To honor your bloodline
To speak her name with laughter \

this one is for mom and Ling Yi- two sisters, mothers

\ Ascension is out today everywhere, completing the release of our Great Falls EP.

songs of blood & chosen family, immaterial realm, visitations, starting over.

Great Falls is a place- a waterfall system I used to walk and climb along in my home town. rare nights, when I’m lucky, I skip along the rocks with her there, sun beaming through her natural hair as I remember it - as she had promised we would.

grief does not cease. it becomes a sort of friend to hold. and a reminder that we are alive. to honor is to remember, to be present, to have a future and to live it as fully as you could ever dream

this time of year is loaded with grief for many. check on your loved ones this holiday season, especially those not of blood, queer kids, trans kids

Interview with Underground Underdogs up today <3.

Thanks to Katalin Lakatos for a thoughtful first review <3:

There’s Talk, the Oakland-based electronic dream pop project fronted by Olivia Lee, effortlessly balances elements of experimental electronica and hazy reverb-drenched shoegaze. Lee’s music is drawn from her childhood love of electronic synthesizers and acoustic piano, her Chinese heritage, and queer identity - she writes music about family, both chosen and blood, and divine coincidence. The trio, featuring collaborators Kellen Balla and Young Lee, creates an electric sonic landscape of stunning depth and complexity and has drawn comparisons to Beach House and M83.

Their third EP “Great Falls” finds the band at the height of its powers, with crisp, prismatic production, soaring ambient guitar, and Lee’s distinctive glacial vocal melodies. Lark-like breathy harmonies weave in and out of focus amidst a dreamy wash of lush synths and cracking, layered electronic beats.  It’s a record about escape, contempt, grief, and the grave responsibility of memory - a dutiful march towards recovery.  Fractured vocal artifacts crumble around disintegrating arpeggios that sometimes swell into a rich, towering wall of sound -  like whispering behind the rush of a waterfall. Great Falls feels like narrowly outrunning a tragedy. It brings you to the edge, but just as you feel the ice cracking beneath you, it mercifully releases into a shimmering galactic pulse. Despite its darkness, and occasional descent into anger - this music insists on an abundant exploding hopefulness.- Katalin Lakatos
