about
ALL OF THE PROCEEDS FROM THE PURCHASE OF THIS TRACK ON BANDCAMP WILL GO TOWARDS FIGHTING THE MONSTER THAT IS SYSTEMIC, INSTITUTIONALIZED RACISM IN THE USA. RECOMMENDATIONS FOR ORGANIZATIONS TO DONATE TO WILL BE ACCEPTED THROUGH MID JUNE 2020.
This song had it's genesis over four years ago. It was a way of expressing a depression I hadn't yet realized I was fighting. A journey through my beliefs, doubts, and unanswered questions that often led me to be "callous" and "cruel". It is both a lamentation of the loss of life (in one way or another), and a cry for hope in dark times.
This unreleased track was originally intended to be a special track on a second Covid-19 demos release, due to all my shows being cancelled. However, in light of current events, at the time of this being published, I've opted to release it as a means to do something to help fight the rampant, institutionalized racism in the USA. A systemic problem that goes further back then just the formation of this country. BLACK LIVES MATTER.
lyrics
Open the windows and let it in
September air and the Summer thin
Cuz I’m not a monster by design
I’ve just been fighting all this time
Oh winds of change come about
Set a flame don’t stomp me out
Cuz I can doubt but I can’t stop
Pick me up don’t let me drop
I can be callous can be cruel
I’ve let it fester let it rule
And I’ve been stagnant I’ve been still
I’m sorry for the hope I kill
And if you love me all the same
Burn the bridges that read your name
The bliss of ignorance is dull
Knowing now what I know
