  14. New Commission For Musicity London

    image

I was approached a little while ago by Nick Luscombe from BBC Radio 3’s Late Junction who has a fantastic project by the name of Musicity London. He commissioned me and several other composers to write music based upon landmarks around Southwark, which can then be unlocked and enjoyed by visiting the locations themselves with phone in hand. So a geo-enabled magical mystery walking tour of audio and architecture basically :-)

I was assigned Southwark Cathedral, one of my favourite London buildings, and my work also featured a collaboration with the Salmon Youth Centre (based nearby in Bermondsey) who contributed some percussion to the beats and break down section of the piece. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable experience and an excellent way to spend an afternoon in the London sun.

  19. Gated Soul EP - Out Now

    image

I’m delighted to announce that “Gated Soul EP” is out now:

Check It / Stream It / Buy It

“Gated Soul” is the fourth release for London composer and producer Lossy on his Boot Cycle Audio imprint. Having previously released with Tru Thoughts, Tessier-Ashpool Recordings & Two Rivers Records, Lossy aka Sam Sharp continues to change things up with four tracks that fly the banner for a more soulful brand of electro with wonky rhodes, crunched-up breaks, plunging bass lines and drum machine medicine.

    “Amazing Tracks 5/5”
      Bicep
    “Woah this one is special”
      Soul Clap
“An instantly endearing slice of soulful electro”
      Ransom Note
    “This new EP is excellent”
      Nick Luscombe (BBC Radio 3)
“Real sounds - sunrises in a massive field, wicked!”
      Mark (Altern-8)
“A very spritely little number - tops EP”
      Justin Robertson (Skint)
“Another magnificent voyage - instantly seductive”
      Juno
    “Pure class”
      Lele Sacchi (Rai Radio 2)
“Hope he’s not the Last Raver - too good!”
      Michail Stangl (Boiler Room)

First up is “Blues For Jekyll”, a driving piece of organica complimented with a steadily building breakdown of FM synthesis and sprawling digital pianos originally written whilst touring with Introducing Live - a fully live band performing DJ Shadow’s seminal “Endtroducing” album. Next, “Last Raver” edges closer to out and out electro, the up-tempo beat and jungle indebted bassline pushing through sections of ravey stabs, shakey organs and analog waterfalls. “Hocus Pocus” glistens and nods towards the golden days of garage and dusty East London basements and “To The Woods” rounds proceedings off on a velveteen note with light footed woodwinds swooping above a solid broken beat backbone.

The EP has been well received around the globe with track premieres from Ransom Note, Trax Magazine and Deep House Amsterdam and radio support on Italian National Rai Radio 2, London’s Resonance FM, Soho Radio, WYEP Pittsburgh, WDKU 91.7 and Ibiza Sonica. DJ highlights include support from the likes of Bicep, Soul Clap, Jacques Renault, Horse Meat Disco, Altern-8, Justin Robertson, Funk Guru, Futureboogie, Chris Massey, Filipe Ribeiro, Marlon Hoffstadt, Curses, Kid Enigma, James Zabiela, Huxley, Iron Curtis,Honey Soundsystem, Gene Farris, and many more.

“Gated Soul” is out now on Boot Cycle Audio
