Unfortunately we won’t be playing the scheduled gigs at Stalybridge and Northwich now.

Unfortunately, due to pressing family reason, we are going to have to cancel playing both upcoming gigs at Stalybridge Buffet Bar and Northwich Salty Dog. Apologies to anyone who has made plans to come and a big thanks to both promoters for their understanding.

Apes by North West

“We’re delighted to showcase our headliners for the event: Dead Sea Apes. An instrumental leviathan from Manchester who’ve more than put in the hours over the years, even performing live with Damo Suzuki (Can) and more recently recording in collaboration with Adam Stone and Black Tempest. So expect to be treated to a psychedelic blend of desert rock, Western Soundtrack and drone. This three piece also consists of more local members including the boss at Inner Space Records in Uppermill. We’re beyond chuffed to have them play their NXNW debut on May 4th.

In support we have the return of one of our favourite acts to NXNW in the form of the pissed-off poet and pint-pulling truthsayer: Patrick T. Davies accompanied by DJ and guitarist Max Mutant together performing what can only be described as a frantically precise mix of spoken words with a heavy reinforcement.

To start the evening of entertainment off we have the wildly talented Yes resident DJ and local Luke Warren playing choice cuts from his vast collection of records, spinning everything from soul, funk, big beat, hip hop, world, disco and dub. Always a treat to get us going.

Finally for those still able to stand from the above and a night of drinking 6% plus beer we have the very first B3B DJ set from the highly anticipated DJ collective known as The Stalybridge John Cage Appreciation Society, taking turns to play us classic bangers from the worlds of rock, metal, nu-metal, emo and power-metal. Because at that time of the night you probably just want to belt out some Jimmy Eat World at the top of your lungs.

That about covers it, oh and it’s free entry. What more could you want? So, come join us from 7pm at the Stalybridge Buffet Bar (on the train platform for those coming from further afield) on May 4th 2024.”

Rewilding in 2023

Posted in Merch, On The Web on 11/02/2024 by chrish

As promised, here are some ‘best of 2023’ lists which included our album Rewilding.

We particularly appreciated this review from Adam at Isolation Records:

“They also rock hard, rejecting the unsettling ambience of their previous work and replacing it with an immense barrage of sound that will shake you to the bones. Guitars howl and wail as the rhythm section creates a devastating momentum that drags the tracks along. Each one thunders by so powerfully that time appears to compress and become irrelevant.”

And a merry Christmas to all our listeners.

2023 has been a momentous year for Dead Sea Apes, with the release or our album Rewilding, our first trip to play outside the UK and two practice room moves. Our new home on the northeastern fringes of Manchester is pictured below.

REWILDING is showing up on various best-of-2023 lists – a full roundup to follow. The last few of the original black vinyl and white vinyl pressings are available on our Bandcamp; there will be another limited edition vinyl edition coming out sometime in the new year and we also have CDs and downloads.

Coming up in 2024, our spontaneous session with The Band Whose Name Is A Symbol in Ottawa is being committed to vinyl by the inestimable Cardinal Fuzz label, and we shall be doing some more gigs and festivals – one to mention in particular is The Conjuring, an intimate gathering in Fell Foot Woods in the Lake District which will also feature the return of our old muckers Mugstar. Early Bird tickets are available until the end of December.

Meanwhile thanks for your support, enjoy the festivities and see you next year!

News – October 2023

We’ve had a great response to our latest album Rewilding. The original pressing is almost sold out but we have a very limited re-release on white vinyl coming out this #BandcampFriday, along with some extra CDs of Rewilding, Dataland and Night Lands.

We had a fantastic time in Ottawa playing at Psych Fest III last month – huge thanks to John Westhaver (of Birdman Sound / The Band Whose Name Is A Symbol) for inviting us over to play and Scott, Adina and Carol for looking after us so well.

Our next gig is with some more North Americans: our old buddies Carlton Melton. We first met them 11 years ago when we played in Sheffield and Hebden Bridge – parts of the Hebden Bridge gig were released on Live Europe ’12, Live At Hebden Bridge and Noise In The Wood – and on Saturday 16th October we will reconvene at the Hebden Bridge Trades Club. Click the flyer below for details and tickets.

Rewilding

Pre-sales are now open for our new album Rewilding at our esteemed record label Cardinal Fuzz. It’s available on LP and CD, and the good Cardinal is doing some bundle deals including a new album by Naujawanan Baidar, alias Nik Rayne of The Myrrors, who guested on our albums Night Lands and The Free Territory.

We will be opening pre-orders on our Bandcamp next Friday, 7th April, which just happens to be a #BandcampFriday. There will be download & streaming options and we offer combined postage with our fabulous T-shirts and back catalogue items.

For our friends in North America, the LP will soon be available from Feeding Tube Records if you want to avoid the particularly heinous transatlantic postage charges.

Following a run of collaborations and split releases, this is a return to the essence of Dead Sea Apes as a 3-piece group, born out of the music we’ve created to play live over the last few years.

From the chaotic blast of opener Denialist, beaming out like a maniacal emergency broadcast, through to the monolithic pounding of the title track, Rewilding is unrelenting, taking in blown-out guitar wails and jet black psych noise while the irrepressible rhythm section moves from claustrophobic motorik beats to a thunderous rolling juggernaut.
These blackened pearls have been recast and refined over the course of the past three years, strung out deeper than the night and now embodying our present uncanny, disorienting times, as we emerge into an altered world to find Mother Nature reasserting herself while the human madness intensifies, locally and globally.
Savage and uncompromising, this is Dead Sea Apes at their most direct and visceral.
