About Elliot Goldenthal

American composer Elliot Goldenthal has taken a unique approach to creating both mainstream and more experimental films -- from Shakespeare to horror movies. He has also written opera and other theatrical music, sometimes collaborating with his long-term partner Julie Taymor. Goldenthal studied with composer John Corigliano and took lessons with Aaron Copland. His eclectic and often atonal style was also influenced by Japan's Toru Takemitsu. He started scoring films in 1979 and continued well into the 2020s, with dozens of original works appearing. Among Goldenthal's champions has been Belgian conductor Dirk Brossé, who led the Brussels Philharmonic on the 2024 anthology album Elliot Goldenthal: Music for Film.
