Pat Mastelotto and Trey Gunn first met at Peter Gabriel's Real World studio in 1993 when they begin preparing for a world tour with David Sylvian and Robert Fripp. Their collaboration extended when Fripp invited both to join King Crimson in 1994. With Crimson, the two have participated in 17 recordings, two DVDs and hundreds of Crimson performances. Sometimes referred to as a “backwards improvising group” the Gunn/Mastelotto rhythm section of King Crimson often out improvised the guitarists in the frontline.

It was during the Crimson rehearsals for “The Power to Believe” CD that their duo, TU, was born. Crimson would wrap up rehearsals in the early evening, but Trey and Pat just kept going. Their first CD came from these nightly sessions and duo shows were added into their busy schedules.

The combination of Mastelotto’s cutting edge, hybrid electro-acoustic drum kit and Gunn’s 10-string, super-electric, touch guitar give this group a sound described as “a Squarepusher, Zeppelin bombast tempered with ambient Eno textured calm, juxtaposed with the fury of a Coltrane improvisation."

TU has toured in Europe, Russia, Poland, Japan, Mexico, and joined the band TOOL for shows in North America.

TREY GUNN: 

In addition to his eleven solo recordings, ten-string touch-guitarist Trey Gunn has toured and/or recorded with King Crimson, David Sylvian, Vernon Reid, Brian Eno, Azam Ali, Maynard J. Kennan's Puscifer, John Paul Jones, Robert Fripp and Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree. He is currently perfoming solo and with the groups TU, KTU and the multi-dimensional performance group Quodia. When not on the road, Gunn continues his work scoring for tv/film and coaches musicians in the creative process.

PAT MASTELOTTO:

Very rarely does a drummer go on to forge the most successful career on the demise of their former hit band. Phil Collins and Dave Grohl have managed it; so, too, has Pat Mastelotto after topping the charts with Mr. Mister in the 1980s. Pat has spent a lifetime jumping genres from pop, to prog-rock, to electronica to world music with XTC, David Sylvian, The Rembrandts, Alan Holdsworth, Trail of the Dead, Steven Wilson, Terry Bozzio, Tony Levin/Stick Men, and for the last 15 years with King Crimson.
