Geneva & Lisboa
Son of music lovers, Mourah was born in Lisbon. At the age of 5, he joined his parents who had emigrated to Switzerland in Geneva. Very early on, the world of music captivated him, rocked by jazz and classical music. At the age of ten, he began his studies at the conservatory of music, practicing singing, guitar, bass and piano. Through his older brother, he discovered artists who left a great impression in him, such as Prince, Massive Attack or Portishead.
Launched in Portugal in 2005, From One Human Being To Another mixes acoustic and electronic sounds, halfway between trip-hop and drum'n'bass on a jazzy and classical background. It is an album that he defines as not "not a one-hour trip, but eleven five-minute trips", trips that address the themes of absence, melancholy and love. It is a mirror of his life, marked by the sudden deaths of his brother and father within 5 years.
This first album was considered as one of the best albums of the year and was nominated in the New Music category of the Dance Club (PT) Awards for Best Album.
From 2007 to 2012 Mourah also collaborated with the Swiss movement theater company Andrayas.
In December 2012 track Sublime was among the nominees at the IPMA (International Portuguese Music Awards) in the Best Song category which was held New York. The subsequent album Kardia was released in March 2015 and critics considered this album a musical success for which he won a Swiss Live Talents Award 2015 in the Public's Choice category.
Thanks to his elder brother, he was introduced to artists who play an important role in his own influences such as Prince, Massive Attack, Portishead and Eurythmics. In his teen years, he joined forces with schoolmates and formed a funk oriented band named Anticlockwise. Two years later, with a driving desire to broaden his musical horizons, he moved to to London for six months where he enjoyed many opportunities to jam with musicians from all over the world.
His debut album was released in Portugal (2005). From One Human Being to Another blends acoustic and electronic sounds, half-way between trip-hop and drum’n’bass with distant echoes of jazz and orchestral music. Speaking of this album he says “this is not a one-hour journey, but rather eleven journeys of five minutes each” .These journeys tackle the issues of absence, melancholy, and love, mirroring the moments he went through when he lost both his father and brother within five years of each other.
The album was praised by critics and considered to be one of the best of the year. Composer, performer and multi-instrumentalist Mourah soon was solicited by by a number of important national artists such as Pilar, Coldfinger and Dj Ferro.
In 2006, the EP New Versions came out displaying songs of the first album remixed by Portuguese and Swiss producers. During this period, he toured Portugal, Switzerland, and Poland, where the song J.Butterfly became a big hit upon its use in a TV commercial.
Mourah has also collaborated with the Swiss theater company Andrayas founded by artist Markus Schmid, for whom he composed the music of two shows between 2008 and 2012.
In late 2011, he began to develop his ideas on the forthcoming and much awaited album Kardia. It is expected to be released in summer 2013.
After a long silence, Mourah is back on track! He is currently working on a forthcoming album called KARDIA, out 16th March .
