Marco Beltrami

Marco Beltrami (b. 7th Oct 1966, New York) is an American film composer and conductor of Italian and Greek heritage who has produced music for many Hollywood blockbusters since the mid-90s. As a long-time Wes Craven's collaborator, Beltrami scored seven of his films, including the Scream franchise. He also repeatedly worked with other notable international filmmakers, including Guillermo Del Toro, Ole Bornedal, James Mangold, and Alex Proyas.

Beltrami graduated from Brown University and further studied at Yale University School Of Music. After relocating to Los Angeles, Marco continued his formal education at USC Thornton School Of Music under Jerry Goldsmith. The composer debuted in the mid-90s and reached a mainstream breakthrough by 1996 when he composed music for Wes Craven's iconic slasher Scream. He soon became a sought-after composer in horror/thriller and action genres, writing music for del Toro's Mimic (1997) and the '98 cult classic The Faculty directed by Robert Rodriguez.

Among the notable Beltrami's 2000s contributions are his collaboration with Marilyn Manson (2) on the soundtrack for Paul W.S. Anderson's Resident Evil (2002), del Toro's Hellboy, and I, Robot by Proyas in 2004. Marco Beltrami also scored certain independent films — for instance, Peter Care's 2002 comedy-drama The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys or neo-Western The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (2005) directed by Tommy Lee Jones. He then composed music for two most recent chapters in the Die Hard film series, Live Free Or Die Hard (2007) and A Good Day To Die Hard (2013), taking over Michael Kamen, author of original three scores, who passed away in 2003.

Beltrami regularly works together with other Los Angeles film composers, most notably his assistant and co-producer Buck Sanders, as well as Marcus Trumpp, Miles Hankins, and Brandon Roberts (2). Some of his one-off collaborators include a metal band Mastodon — they created a soundtrack for Jonah Hex (2010) — or a renowned composer Philip Glass, with whom Beltrami co-composed the Fantastic 4 (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) in 2015. He also created orchestral arrangements for five tracks on Guns N' Roses - Chinese Democracy album.

The composer received numerous industry and critics' awards over the years, including two Academy Awards nominations for "Best Original Score." In 2019, Beltrami got a Golden Globes nomination for A Quiet Place (Music From The Motion Picture) and won Primetime Emmy Awards for his Free Solo (National Geographic Original Motion Picture Soundtrack).
